An Advanced Technique for Getting Copywriting Clients & Gigs
————————————————————————————————————————————————–
Once upon a time little Jason Fladlien tried to be a freelance copywriter. He wasn’t that good, and no one wanted to hire him.
He wrote yellow page ads for marketing-retarded small business owners, and even dabbled in some direct mail.
He didn’t get many copywriting clients, and those he did he hated and wanted to torture.
And Jason IS usually a nice guy.
Well, flash forward a few years and now Jason is one of those sexy “info publishers” on the net. He creates a lot of product, and he writes all his own copy. He’s doing pretty good.
He’s got a couple different info businesses running, and a steady stream of happy clients.
Sweet!
So, he develops a copywriting system just for himself that is pretty good at getting the results he wants.
So he decides to create some products on it.
He also creates some other marketing products as well, and pretty soon he has people emailing him saying things like
“I think your copy is good. What would you charge for a letter? I’d like to hire you to write my copy!”
Now all the sudden, without trying for it, little Jason Fladlien has a steady stream of potential copywriting clients.
Instead of CHASING clients down… they are CHASING him down.
And the moral of the story is: the best way to get clients is to have them come to you, and NOT go to them.
So how do you do it? Well, it’s simple: you put an information business in front of you copywriting business. You write
different reports on different aspects of copywriting, and you distribute those reports as far as you can.
And no matter what, even if you give away all your secrets, all your techniques, all your strategies…
everything… and people read it… a certain portion of them still won’t want to do any of the work and would rather pay you to do it for them.
And they’d feel comfortable doing it, because in their eyes you are the expert. They’ll be less resistant to your price. And they’ll be a lot easy to work with.
What a weird world we live in… the best way to get copywriting clients is to sell them stuff on copywriting instead of asking them if they need copy written.
Such is life.
So if you want to get a lot of clients, the answer is simple: put an info business in front of your copywriting business. As a bonus, it will allow you to be become a consultant and coach as well, as it has for me.
