Keywords rule for the operation of the Internet in general, and for article marketing, in particular. The underlying mechanism is clear to any untrained eye. What do we use when performing a search? A keyword or key phrase that we type in the search box of the search engine. Following in this line of thought, article marketing essentially needs keywords in order to be efficient.

Keywords define your domain of activity in a broader or more specific way, and thus, they become the basis for any advertising or promotional campaign that relies on article marketing. There are however some issues to consider when trying to identify the right keywords.

Analyze your competition!

Thanks to software programs, we can now run in depth investigations and analyses of the companies that we compete against. Start with the websites that stand on top of a niche you want to target and learn their strong and weak points. Only decide on your article marketing tactics after determining which are the best keywords the competition relies on.

General keywords are inefficient!

A software will usually display a list of keywords starting with the most general, that attract the highest number of queries. Very general keywords are used by web sites with history, credibility and reputation that often have millions of backlinks referring to them. How could you defeat such competitors? The choice of the keywords really makes a difference with article marketing.

Low competition keywords work great!

Minor, highly specialized keywords are the ones to begin with. Do not try to play in the major league unless you are really prepared for it. You could even use misspelled words into your advantage.
